Lion attack: American tourist mauled to death at South African safari park – TomoNews

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA — A 22-year-old American woman was killed and another man seriously injured Monday, after they were both pulled through a car window by a lion at Gauteng Lion Park.

The two unidentified tourists were reportedly driving through the lion park with the windows open, the Daily Mail reports.

Lanseria police have launched an investigation into the incident, which was witnessed by other tourists at the park.

ENCA reports, one of the female lions jumped through the passenger window and bit the woman, while the unidentified man was injured when he tried to push the massive cat out of the vehicle.

By the time park staff and emergency responders reached the couple it was already too late. The woman succumbed to her injuries.

According to the Daily Mail, the fatal incident is the park’s third major attack in just four short months.

In March, Australian tourist, Brendan Smith was mauled by a lion and two days later a 13-year-old boy was attacked by a cheetah.

Although the park gives clear instructions to all visitors to keep windows closed when touring the area, Scott Simpson, assistant operations manager at the park told ENCA he doesn’t “understand why people think it’s okay to leave windows open.”

Park officials say they plan to put down the lion involved in the incident.

  1. People forget that its human nature to kill something that's killed one of us. Just like its lion's nature to attack and eat pretty much anything that has flesh and moves. It is harsh but that is just nature.

  2. That is a lie! If they are so concerned about "keeping the windows closed", why some safari cars don't have windows, no doors, no windshield, nor even a fucking roof! Give me a break!

  3. A man killed and nobody gives fuck. A lion as an exotic pets and people lose their mind saying animal abuse. Seems right, eh?

  4. Exactly people can be so fucking dum and stupid the damn sign says don't pull the window down and people do it anyway. Now if you die because of your defiance, then you totally deserved it!!!!

  5. Well . . . He was hungry . . . And he got a meal.

I feel sad for the death of course, but let's face it. They pulled down the window and seeing an opportunity, the lion attacked her. Wild animals can be nice and friendly, but if they're hungry then they're hungry. Can't stop won't stop until the big cat's full.

A hungry lion is a hungry lion

Hungry predator eats unsuspecting prey. I do hope the people who see this video take note for future experiences with animals.

    And let's be real here.

If you approach a dangerous animal without proper precaution or leave yourself vulnerable to an attack, you have nobody to blame but yourself and that's the truth.

And honestly, I don't blame any of them because I don't have to. All the people involved in this tragic incident had probably blamed themselves quite enough.

  6. ''the elephant was put down for posing threat to the tourists''
how about we put down all the tourists for posing nuisance to nature and wild life for their recreation. fucking pigs whores

  7. Put down the lion? Ok, what have they done to instruct the lion to not attack humans? Have they even made an attempt at teaching the lion not to attack humans? It's like failing a student before the class has even begun. It makes no sense.
