President Rajapaksa has emphasized to the people of Badulla that the country today needed a strong Parliament consisting of members who have a feeling towards the nation.
The President said he does not want a Parliament which makes only speeches. He wanted a strong and courageous Parliament. It was not necessary to reiterate the development that was undertaken despite a war being waged against the terrorists. Everyone is aware of the present status of the BadullaNuwara Eliya road. The Government provided all these roads, the required infrastructure, electricity and water. These had been provided since gaining independence.
The President opined that the people were given an opportunity to reap the dividends of development after the liberation of the country. He pointed out that airports and harbours were being constructed for the benefit of the entire nation. The future of the children lies on a strong economy. If so, the President emphasized that it is his responsibility to prepare the required background in this respect.
The President was addressing another victorious public rally at the Keppetipola Maha Vidyalaya Grounds in Welimada to consolidate the triumph of the Freedom Alliance at the General Election. A notable feature was the large crowds which joined in this rally from Badulla and the surrounding areas. It indicated that the Alliance will register a resounding victory at the polls.
Badulla District Peoples Alliance candidates Nimal Siripala de Silva, Dilan Perera, Vadivel Suresh, Chamika Buddhadasa, Rohana Pushpakumara, Thenuka Vidanagamage, Udith Lokubandara, J.M. Gunatilake, S. Chandramohan and S.R. Bandusena also addressed the crowds.
